New name for hospital where sheikh was born in Al Ain
DUBAI – The oldest Al Ain hospital where the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince was born has been given a new name by no less than the UAE royal himself.
Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan renamed the Oasis Hospital as Kanad Hospital in honor of the founders Dr. Pat and Marian Kennedy.
The Kennedys founded the hospital in 1960 after Sheikh Zayed, the UAE’s founding father, invited them to set up a healthcare facility dedicated to children.
The American couple worked in Al Ain until 1975. Their two daughters returned to the city four years ago to open the hospital’s new building.
Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed was born in this hospital in March, 1961. Since the hospital opened, more than 120,000 babies have been born there.
The unveiling of the hospital’s new name as Kanad Hospital was attended by Sheikh Hazza Bin Tahnoon, Undersecretary of the Ruler’s Representative’s Office in Al Ain on Sunday. ICA/Expat Media.
